Unless you have ever planned an event before, you may just assume that it’s a fairly easy process. After all, how hard could it be to take care of a few things like a venue, food and drinks? With a list that short, you’re bound to succeed. We wish this was true. Unfortunately, unless you have planned an event before, you may not understand the immense amount of work that goes into the process. That’s okay though. As the catering experts in Chicago, we have done this multiple times. We have also seen events organized without the help of a catering company or event planner and experienced the mistakes that people tend to make over and over again. If you are in the process of planning an event, whether it be a wedding or a corporate party, we can help you to ensure that you too don’t make the mistakes that others so commonly do.
Food
Planning to feed a large group of people is often more tricky than one would imagine. After all, people have allergies and preferences so it’s important that you consider both. This means that each of items you are serving should explicitly state what is included in the dish (especially if seafood or nuts of any kind). Additionally, you need to have options of meals for those who may not eat meat or dairy. Without these things, it’s very likely you will have some upset or disappointed guests.
Bar Service
One of the most important things to concern yourself with when it comes to hosting an event is to have a well-serviced bar. Make sure that the bartenders you hire are fully licensed and ready to serve. You may also want to consider how many guests you are expecting and hire an appropriate number of bartenders based off of that. People are not likely to enjoy themselves at your event if they have to stand in line for the bar all night because you didn’t think about how long it takes for your one bartender to make a cocktail.
Organization
The key to an amazing event is, of course, organization. We would suggest that you be overly organized rather than trying to ‘wing it’ even with the small stuff. Write up a master sheet of everything that you need to get done in the weeks leading up the event, and then a separate one for everything that needs to be completed the day the event is occurring. This will ensure that you do not miss a single thing which will likely put you at ease throughout the event planning process.
Guests
If you are planning a wedding, you know already that you will need a seating chart. On the other hand, if you are planning a corporate event, be sure that you not only have a place where attendees can sign in, but also name tags for everyone to wear. There are few things that can make an event more awkward than people standing around not speaking with one another because they don’t know who anyone else is.
